Moogerly
Mk 1

Got stuck? Here's help on how to use Moogerly.

This page provides some information about how to use this platform and on our data protection policy.

How to use Moogerly

Visualize the connections of any movie, TV show, cast- or crewmember by adding one or more items to the pool of found movies or TV shows. Once you add them to the active selection on the right side, they become part of the interactive graph. From here, you decide which kind of items you want to show: Movie, TV show, cast and crew. Movies and TV shows are linked by members of cast and crew («person»).

For starters, let's take a look at this instructional video to find out if Quentin Tarantino and Betty White share any appearances.:

Getting to know the user interface

The core Moogerly layout features the following elements from top to bottom. Check out their corresponding sections in this help:
  • Search bar
  • Set selector
  • Solo settings (for cast or crew members)
  • Item picker with item search
  • Visibility options
  • Graph
  • Movie or TV show details
  • Navigator with word cloud and list view
  • Person details

Working with sets

A set represents one or more movies and/or TV shows. Each item of a set may be inactive (on the left side of the picker) or active (right side). One or more items may be (de-) activated by switching their side with the Add and Remove buttons. The chevrons (» «) change the status of all items while the arrows affect only the marked ones.
With the press of the button, you can create a new set with all the currently active items of your selection. This new set is only stored in memory for the duration of your visit («temporary»). To save your set for good, you must store them in your sets section. This feature is for members only.

Browsing public and managing owned sets

The sets page shows all the sets available to you (including your own). The filters let you focus on owned, featured, temporary or public sets:
  • If you are a Moogerly member, the Owned filter shows all the sets created by you.
  • Featured sets are included in the set selector next to all your own sets (featured or not). Admins may mark some sets as featured if deemed appropriate.
  • Temporary sets are the ones you created in the explorer but have not yet stored in your Moogerly account.
  • Public sets are available to all members and visitors alike.
  • The Search helps you find any specific sets by title (and description) or owner (creator).
Type into the search field to find all currently loaded sets. Hit Enter to search in all sets available to you.

Tiles

Movie / TV show, graph, navigator and person each come with their own tile which can be maximized to fullscreen by the click of the button on the top right corner of each tile.

Graph

The graph is a visual, interactive representation of all your chosen movie and TV show items and their interconnecting cast and crew members.
Switch between node-, selection- and view-mode.
You may pan, zoom and interact with the graph while interaction is turned on.
Press shift or space to make a selection of nodes you want to investigate further.

Movie / TV show

This tile contains information about the current active (as in last interacted with) movie or TV show item.
Use the node-representations in this tile to navigate the graph.
Click on the poster image to focus on the corresponding node.

Person

This tile contains information about the current active cast or crew member and – depending on your view options – their credits.
Use the node-representations in this tile to navigate the graph.
Click on the portrait image to focus on the corresponding node.

Navigator with word cloud, list and selection

The navigator informs you about the currently represented items in the graph.
  • The word cloud shows the currently active items (cast and crew) ordered by their number of connections to the active movies or TV shows. If you set the navigator to fullscreen, you'll see all items.
  • The list tab contains all active movies, TV shows, cast and crew (depending on your view setting).
  • If you've set the graph to fullscreen in select mode, you'll see all the selected nodes in the selection tab.

The issue with TV shows

Because not every person being part of a TV show is included in its general data you won’t get a complete list of people of any selected TV show. On the other hand, choosing a person, you’ll get a complete list of all his roles and credits of – depending on your settings – movie and TV show.

Your profile and how to get one

To store your own custom sets or use any of the advanced features, you'll need a Moogerly account.
Currently – to guarantee core functionality during this stage of development – access for members is by invitation only.
